March 5, 2026 Report to the Friends

BRANCH MANAGER’S REPORT

The following is the report from Sean McGill, branch librarian.

January 2026 circulation was 10,050, compared to January 2025, with circulation of 10,058, a

reduction of -.02 %

February 2026 circulation was 9770, compared to February 2025, with circulation of 9123

showing an increase of 7.09%. For the year, circulation is 19,826 compared to 2025 at this

time when 19,181 items circulated, showing an increase of 3.36%.

Senior Library Assistants visited the seven kindergarten classes at Union Ridge Elementary to share

stories with students and went to Ridgefield School District’s Early Learning Center and read to seven

classes. Students from the Early Learning Center will visit the library March 3, March 5 and March 6.

Teachers at South Ridge Elementary arranged for all third grade students to visit the Ridgefield

Community Library May 27, 28, and 29 to learn about Summer Reading and all the other great stuff the

library does.

The First Saturday theme in Ridgefield February 7 was “Books and Bowls” partly to celebrate National

Library Lovers Month. On February 7, the Friends of Ridgefield Community Library held a book sale,

and employees with the City of Ridgefield staffed a table giving out tokens good for a delicious treat in

a bowl, a flower arrangement, or a ceramic bowl. The coordinator from the City reported that they

started with 200 tokens and ran out. Library staff presented a Family Storytime and prepared an all

ages craft activity.

Students and adults in Ridgefield turned in approximately 700 Bookmark Contest entries.

The branch manager leads one of the tables during the Tabletop Role-Playing Adventure program on

Tuesday, and did something different with this group. Generally, sessions involve narrative with some

use of pawns representing characters and “monsters” when necessary. The branch manager observed

many of the kids doodling during sessions, so he challenged them to work together to create a shared

stronghold. Each participant will design an individual portion and then they will collaborate to create a

unified design of the whole complex.

At Build It!, 31 attendees made paper airplane launchers and experimented with different construction

methods to obtain maximum launch.

Kids Yoga went very well with 15 people attending (elementary age).

Attendance at Baby Storytime is hitting 27.

Saturday March 7 Liz Pike, a master gardener, will lead a program on preparing soil for Dahlia tubers.

March 17 is the Ridgefield Arts Experience program and performance, “The Pine Trees Snake.”

April 9 the District has arranged for Angel Ocasio, a professional clown, to put on a performance in

Ridgefield. This is a first and I’m excited about this.

I’m participating in every other week training for branch managers that focuses on managing from the

middle. I found the first session valuable and interesting.

Sean also shared that Ridgefield was the fifth busiest library in the district, and one of the Senior

Library Assistants will be offering a “Music and Movement” program for ages babies and older.
